Our Panthers traveled to Morehead HS in Eden, NC for the 3A Mid-East Regional Tournament. The Panthers made a strong showing. After Friday night, 14 Panthers were still in the running. 11 Panthers made it to the semi-finals with 7 advancing to the finals. The Panthers wrestled GREAT & won their 5 consectutive Regional Championship. Great Job Panthers. Good Luck @ State next weekend.

The Panthers capped off their second undefeated season in a row with the North Carolina 3A Dual Team Championship over Southwestern Randolph in front of a sell out Hometown crowd. The Panthers started strong & never looked back. The starting wt was 138. Anderson Pope scored a major decision to get the Panthers started. Next up @ 145, Zach Rimmer scored a crowd pleasing 9-7 OT win. At 152 David Peters-Logue won by a 2:38 fall which really pumped up the Orange fans. JD Wynn @ 160 scored the second OT win 10-8 in another tight match putting the Panthers in the lead 16-0. At 170 Cole McLelland wrestled a very tough match ending up on the short end 9-4. The match of the night belonged to Aderiic Snipes @ 182. Aderiic shot in for a take down but was countered & turned for 2 nearfall pts to trail 0-4 going into the 2nd period. In the 2nd period, Aderiic reversed Tyler Robbins but was reveresed to trail 2-6 going into the 3rd period. In the 3rd period, Aderiic took neutral, was taken down & turned to his back, now trailing 10-2. Aderiic reversed Tyler & pinned him at the 4:41 mark. The Orange fans were exstatic. The Orange fans were up on their feet cheering in fanatically. The win increased the Panther lead to 22-3. This match had the fans of both sides up & down throughout the match. At 195, Jarrel Lea scored a tough decision and Wesley used a quick takedown into a pin at the 1:09 mark to increase the Panther lead to 31-3. At 285, Byron Stephenson wrestled a tough match & only gave up a decision 7-0. The Panthers were in command control needing only a win to win the match. At 106, Martin Carreon met the criteria by winning by decision of 7-1 to increase the Panther lead to 34-6. Orange forfeited out to make the final score 30-34 and accomplish another underfeated season 23-0, winning the 3A State Team Dual Championship for the 2nd time in 2 yrs. For his performance, Aderiic Snipes earned the Most Valuable Wrestler Award. Congratulations Aderiic. Congratuations to the Coaches, wrestlers & fans of Southwestern Randolph on a great season.

Tonight @ 6:00 pm our Orange Panthers compete for the 3A State Dual Team Championship @ Orange High. Our Panther wrestlers & Coaching staff have worked hard all season to prepare for this match. The Panthers will face the Cougars of Southwestern Randolph. This will be a battle to the end. Come out & support our PANTHERS. Good Luck Panthers. Go PANTHERS!!!!!!!!!!
Tonight our Orange Panthers wrestled 2 tough matches. In the first match vs South Brunswick the panthers found themselves behind 9-0 before tying the score 9-9. The Panthers lost the next match making the score 13-9 but re-grouped, scratched through very close matches to built up a 43-13 over the next 6 matches. Panthers win 43-25 & earn trip to the 3A Eastern Regional Finals vs Morehead. The panthers started strong against Morehead building up a 15-0 lead before giving up a pin to make it 15-6. From there on the Panthers fought their way to a 40-22 WIN & an opportunity to wrestle for the 3A State Dual Championship @ Orange @ 6:00 pm on Saturday 2/11 vs Southwest Randolph. Come out & support the Orange Panthers as they strive to repeat as 3A State Dual Champions.

Tonight our Panthers hosted the Tigers of Chapel Hill. The Panthers took the early lead on the way to a 55-6 win. This is the 10th Consectutive Conference Championship. Congratulations Panthers.

Our Panthers opened with Cardinal Gibbons in the start of Conference Match with a win 68-8. The match was followed by the Orange & Black team match. The Orange team was coached by Coach Schnee & Coach Woods while the Black team was coached by Coach Poteat, Coach Smith & Coach Long. The teams paired up wrestlers of similiar weight. The match started with a tie. Coach Carr made a guest appaerance enjoying the Stanford Charger victory over Northern Roxboro. Great Job Chargers. The Orange & Black match seesawed back & forth. Great wrestling on the mat including the Coach Holt vs JD Wynn match which brought quite a bit of enjoyment to the fans. Referee Jerry Daniels did an excellent job as the referee for the match. It was great to be able to see ALL the faces of Orange wrestling. In the last match Byron Stephenson & Wesley Dawson went toe to toe. Wes managed to win which made the match a tie 38-38. Ed managed to get some great shots. A good time was had by all. Thanks to the fans for attending. Great job Panthers!!!!!!!!!!

Our Panthers took 1st place @ the 16 team Greeneville Invitational in Greeneville, Tn. The Panthers took 13 of 14 wrestlers into the semifinals. Placing 3-1st, 6-2nds, 4-3rds & 1-6th to use the total team effort to score 272 points for the WIN. Great job Panthers!!!!!!!!!!

This weekend, our Orange Panthers defended last year’s Jim King title. Our Panthers scored 253 pts. to take the tournament. Cary came in 2nd with 187.5 followed by Northern Durham with 161. The Panthers placed 12 wrestlers in a GREAT team effort. Leading the charge was Jordan Baker @ 120 & Wesley Dawson @ 220 placing 1st. Zach Rimmer @ 145 placed 2nd. Placing 3rd were Will Riley @ 113, Jack Twomey-Kozak @ 132, Anderson Pope @ 138, David Peters-Logue @ 152, JD Wynn @ 160, & Jarrell Lea @ 195. Aderric Snipes @ 182 placed 4th, Collin Smith @ 126 & Cole McLelland @ 170 placed 5th. The Panthers answered the challenge this weekend. Practice hard this week as the Panthers travel to Eden, NC on Saturday for another full & challenging wrestling tournament. Good Luck Panthers.

Thanks to the Orange wrestlers who know how to set up for a wrestling tournament & clean up after the tournament (Madison Square Garden could learn from you on how to convert from basketball to wrestling & back). Tuesday night our Panthers returned to action with the Orange Thnksgiving Duals. Losing 5 Seniors & 2 transfers from last seasons team plus the new weight classes, the Panthers have a new look. In the first match against Northern Durham the Panthers used 6 pins, a tech fall, a decsion & a forfeit to score 53 vs Northern Durhams 21. In the second match against cross town revial Cedar Ridge the Panthers scored 7 pins, 1 tech fall & received 3 forfeits to win 65 to 18. In the final match against Southern Alamance the Panthers used 4 pins, 1 major decision, a decision, & 3 forfeits to win by the score of 53-21. Overall the team wrestled well. It was nice to see the returning wrestlers on the mat as well as the new faces making contributions to the wins. Our Panthers went 3 - 0 at the Thanksgiving Quad. Photos in the Gallery. Tonight our Panthers traveled to Concord, NC to face last years State Champs JM Robinson. What a turn out on both side to root their teams on. The starting weight was 103. At 103, Will Riley worked Jonah Swinson to a 7-0 decision, Panthers lead 3-0. Jordan Baker at 112 follows with a pin of CJ Buck in 0:48 and the Panther crowd goes wild. Kaleb Cates wrestled a tough Hamilton Jones and lost by a tech fall 17-2. Robinson is on the board and trail 9-5. Luke Mincey at 125 faced Garrison White who scored a 8-0 major decision. Robinson has now tied the score 9-9. At 130 Jack Twomey-Kozak lost a heartbreaker 8-7 to Tomas Adame and Robinson takes the lead 12-9. Anderson Pope at 135 work Anthony Pfieffer to a 8-3 decision to tie the score at 12-12. At 140 Zach Rimmer battled tough against Devante Andujar but came up short in a 5-2 decision. Robinson re-takes the lead 15-12. JD Wynn at 145 worked Kenan Robertson to a 13-5 major decision and the Panthers regain the lead 16-15. The crowd emotions have been going back and forth match by match. Cole McLelland wrestling at 152 turned Cody Murgas for the pin at the 1:32 mark. The Panther crowd goes wild and the Panthers lead has increased to 22-15. At 160 Tyrone Mason wrestled Patrick Oakley to a 9-4 decision to continue to add too the Panther lead score now Orange 25, Robinson 15. At 171 Alex Shawver starts off with a takedown to stun Nathan Tesh. Alex wrestled a smart yet aggressive match scoring a decision of 4-2. The Panther crowd continues to cheer on the Panthers as they feel the end is near as the score is Orange 28, Robinson 15. Justin Barbee faced Xavier Figueroa at 189. Justin wrestled an aggressive tough match turning Xavier several times. Xavier hurt his shoulder and was unable to continue. Justin wins by injury default. This sealed the Championship. The Orange crowd stands & cheers the 2011 3A State Team Champions. The Panthers forfeit the last 2 matches making the final score 34-27. Alex Shawver is Most Valuable Wrestler. What a night for Panther fans who traveled the 150 miles to Concord, NC. Congratulations to JM Robinson on their great season and especially to JM Robinson for their wonderful hospitality. The Panthers will not have too much time to savor the win as the Regional Tournament begins Friday on the road but this time on to Chapel Hill. Congratulations PANTHERS on a job well done.
